Recommended feed rates

Maximise the life of Titman tooling by using the correct feed rates.

This chart is based on a two flute straight cutter not exceeding 35mm cut length and is only relevant when used in conjunction with Titman router cutters, their design and performance.

This unique chart is a result of over two years testing of Titman Router Cutters. The tests carried out on behalf of Titman Tools Limited by the CNC Router Project of London are based on working with MDF using the same grade of board, the same tooling and the same calibrated measuring equipment. This feed rate chart is designed to give maximum tool life. On some materials, a reduced feed rate will be required, and in some instances, to improve the finish, a higher rpm will be preferred. When working with our Feed Speed Chart recommendations, over a period of time, a definite improvement in tool life will be achieved. The Red type on the chart is the recommended ‘best for performance’

Cusp Height (Pitch Height)

Cusp height is the size of chip produced when cutting. The slower the feed rate at a given rpm, the smaller the chip produced and the greater the tool-wear.

The larger the chip, the better the tool life. However, the finish can be affected by too high feed rates.

For information on feed rates regarding other router cutter suppliers, please contact the relevant manufacturer or distributor. e.g. (using a 12.7 dia. cutter – H12)

A small chip is produced at 3 meters per minute feed rate when run at 18,000rpm, compared with the larger chip size at 5 metres per minute. The larger the chip size the less wear on the tool but at some point this factor will begin to affect the finish on the material being cut, therefore working within our guide gives an optimum best.
